1. Leonardo DiCaprio
It’s probably no surprise that we’re topping the list off with this environmental advocate and actor. Leonardo DiCaprio has openly supported eco-friendly efforts for years. Back in 2018, he tweeted, “Solar power is key to a future without fossil fuels.” We don’t know if he had a crystal ball, but DiCaprio has been doing his part to make the world a greener place for over 20 years.
He’s on the board of the World Wildlife Foundation, which supports efforts to make it easier for people to live in harmony with nature. He’s also endorsed an off-grid solar company called Kingo. This company provides decentralized solar energy to communities all over the world.
2. Mark Ruffalo
This Hulk of an activist has installed a solar array beside his home and has actually spoken out against fossil fuels as an energy source. Ruffalo highlights how his solar energy system can produce an excess of clean energy. Through a net metering program in New York, he’s able to receive credits on his utility bill and the excess energy is rolled back to the power grid for his neighbors to use. A superhero after our own hearts, Mark Ruffalo is embracing a greener lifestyle on and off camera.
3. Brad Pitt
Second on the list, but not in our hearts, is Brad Pitt. This heartthrob has held A-list status for quite a long time and has done his part to make significant contributions to sustainability efforts. Pitt’s Make It Right foundation has remodeled an old school building into an energy-efficient apartment complex in Kansas City. Reportedly, the Bancroft School Apartments holds 400 solar panels. The intention of the program is to make sustainable living more affordable and accessible for lower income communities.
4. Pierce Brosnan
Known as Bond, James Bond. Brosnan is also known as the major champion of solar power in Hollywood. His family has so many solar panels on their Los Angeles area home that sells surplus energy to the grid. In addition to using solar panels on his house, Brosnan has a solar-powered compost heap.
The actor does things to make his home use less energy. He put a system in place to recycle on his eco-friendly property. Instead of manually turning off the lights when he leaves a room, Brosnan’s house is set up to automatically turn off the lights if a room is empty for more than 5 minutes. That’s pretty cool, just like something you’d see in a James Bond movie!
5. Lisa Ling
Lisa’s property has a solar panel system that heats water and then supplies it as radiant heat beneath the floors. The same system heats all the family’s water needs, from the shower to the swimming pool. Ling also added additional solar panels on the roof to make her home as self-sustainable as possible.
